Summer Essentials: Shirts, Tanks & Tees

I'm back for the second installment in my Summer Essentials series. This week it's all about the tops! In Michigan it's very humid (compared to California, where I am from!) so I tend to stick to light weight tanks, tees and blouses. Here are a few of my go-to tops. I actually have many of them-- including the top white shirt, bottom left blush top (on sale for $15!), and bottom right aqua tank (on sale for $15!)

There's just something about white shirts that get me every time. They go with absolutely everything! This is definitely the color I gravitate towards most. What about you?

You can shop all of the looks right here, but my favorite is the Pineapple shirt! It's on sale + an additional 15% off right now:

What are your summer top essentials?

Don't forget to shop the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale! There's only a few days left.

Happy Wednesday!

For the Home: DIY Air Freshener

Photos: Michaela Noelle Designs

DETAILSEAT Letters / Eat Cake Towel

Recently I've been wanting one of those diffusers to diffuse essential oil in my apartment, but goodness! They are expensive. The other day I used what I had to give my apartment a nice, fresh smell. It was free, since I had all the ingredients on hand! The best :)

You'll need: a few slices of lemon, 3 drops of orange oil, a boiling pot of water, a sprinkle of cinnamon (if you want)

Combine all ingredients and enjoy the aroma throughout the day while it simmers on your stove. It's amazing what new smells can do for your creativity! Let me know if you try this one and if you know of any other recipes, do share!

Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a relaxing, enjoyable weekend!

Client Progress: Contemporary Kitchen Design

A while back I showed you a client's living room design plan here. Since we're redesigning this client's entire first floor, I thought it'd be fun to show you some more progress. The kitchen was completely torn out and redone. It's so great to see it come together (finally!) Last week, the backsplash went in and ohhh la la, it's gorgeous! It was a really fun one to design. My client wasn't sure if she wanted a detailed design behind where the stove will go, but I pushed for it, and everyone is so glad!

We did a really pretty gray/beige subway tile for the majority of the kitchen backsplash and did an inlay of small rectangular marble tiles behind the range. This detail really pulls together the gray veining in the quartz countertop and a lot of the other beige and gray details in the space.

The island is a darker walnut finish and we decided on gold hardware for just the island. The perimeter of the other white cabinets are all silver hardware. I've always been a big fan of mixing metals, so when my client asked me what I thought about this, I was so excited!

These pretty knobs are from Anthropologie. The reason they work when mixed with other silver hardware is that they have a mother of pearl finish. This finish has a hint of gray and silver in it, tying everything together.

Two of these mercury glass lamps sit on the entry console table. Here's a pair that's similar.

It's always such a journey to see my client's homes take shape. I can't wait to show you everything soon! It's one gorgeous home.

If you are looking for design help with your home, I'd love to step in. Whether you're looking for an hour consultation to help start the ideas flowing with a second pair of eyes, you are far away and want virtual design services, or you're in the West Michigan area and want in-home design services, I'd love to hear from you. I'm currently booked through June, but am accepting new clients in July. Email me at hello@michaelanoelledesigns.com for more information!

Don't forget to check out Nordstrom's Half-Yearly Sale :)

Happy Thursday!

Outside Patio Apartment Update

As warmer weather continues here in Michigan, I am loving my little patio. I've always loved flowers (clearly!) and have wanted my own garden for ages, but while living in an apartment, potted plants will have to suffice. Although it's not big, it's an outdoor space and it over looks a golf course, so I'm not complaining! The first thing I did when the weather warmed up was go get myself a peony bush. The one I bought last year apparently developed a disease and never bloomed (sad!!) so I was hoping this year's would actually show me some blooms. We had a very humid night the other day and when I woke up, both of the buds had bursted open with the prettiest pink hues. Summer made! ;)

In order to make this outdoor patio space feel cozy and colorful, I added a few key pieces.

1. Plants: what's a porch without plants? I picked up this large plant below, along with a lattice, for the climbing vines to make their way up, up, up!

2. Height: adding height is a great way to up the interest in a space. I found this old stool at a vintage store around the corner from my house, added the lattice for more height, and staggered the heights of the plants.

3. Color: adding some fun throw pillows from Lulu & Georgia was my finishing touch. Summer calls for some saturated hues. I love the coral/pink in these Spotted Ikat throws.

4. Seating: when it's nice out, we love eating dinner on the patio and sometimes I'll even eat my lunch outside when I'm working from home. I picked up this table and chairs set (it's not the prettiest, but it works!) for under $100 at a local furniture store.

I think I literally experienced the heart eyes emoji upon seeing these petals open!

It's not a lot of decor, but it's something to make it feel like a new season. If you're in the market for some outdoor decor and furniture, here are my go to shops!

- Terrain - Oh my word..if I could buy everything in the store, I really would! This is a great resource for special, one-of-a-kind items.
- Target - always a fan favorite.
- World Market - awesome, stylish pieces for great prices!
